Government compensates for forced abortion
(07-11 18:54)
The mainland government has agreed to pay more than 70,000 yuan (HK$85,300) to settle a dispute over forced abortion. Feng Jianmei was forced to abort her baby seven months into her pregnancy because she did not have 40,000 yuan to pay the fine for having a second child. Feng's husband Deng Jiyuan said that his family wanted to return to a normal life. Chinese authorities have apologized for the incident and fired two officials and sanctioned five others.
