Judges await Legco nod on 5.6pc backdated pay rise

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Judges and judicial officers are to get a 5.66 percent pay rise backdated to April 1 if the funds are approved by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council.

The salary increase was recommended by the Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service and accepted by the Chief Executive-in-Council.

The committee took into account several factors including Hong Kong's general economic situation, cost of living adjustment, the government's budgetary situation, overseas remuneration arrangements and private sector pay levels and trends.

It also considered the fact that retired judges are not allowed to return to private practice in the SAR.

The committee submitted its report to the chief executive on July 4.

A copy of the report is available on the website of the Joint Secretariat for the Advisory Bodies on Civil Service and Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service. STAFF REPORTER
