HK skater killed in Taiwan

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

A tourist from Hong Kong was hit and killed by a semi-trailer truck while roller skating in Taiwan yesterday.

The 25-year-old, identified as Lau Kin, was set to explore the island on roller skates with five Taiwanese friends.

The group had planned to travel from Feng Gang to Taitung County.

Lau was skating along a curved road in Taitung when he moved to the wrong side of the road and into the path of a semi-trailer.

Paramedics took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead at 1.20pm. The Taitung County police have contacted Lau's wife and said they will conduct an investigation.

Last month, a student from the Hong Kong Institute of Education met with an accident while cycling in Taiwan.

Yeung Man-hei, a second-year student, was taken to hospital, where he remained unconscious for nine days.

He was later transferred to Hong Kong for further treatment. STAFF REPORTER
