Cabbies get the call

Monday, May 07, 2012

I would like to bring to the attention of JS Lam that nearly all taxi drivers in Hong Kong have a minimum of two mobile phones on standby - I've even seen a few with six.

Just today on my way to the airport, I witnessed three separate accidents involving five taxis.

I guess it's easy for the police to spot these mobile phones and the time may have arrived to limit cabbies to just one device and let them focus on driving.

They are supposed to take passengers safely to their destinations not on a Russian roulette ride.

It's so obvious that no one can handle a single call and focus on the road effectively, so for them to be able to take multiple calls is a guaranteed disaster. But again, this is Hong Kong! Name Supplied
