The Kawa Karpo Kora
Straddling the border between Yunnan and Tibet sits one of the Buddhist world's most holy mountains - Kawa Karpo, or "white pillar" in Tibetan. It's never been climbed (being worshipped as a deity) and remains a remnant and icon of the ancient bon religion; an animistic tradition based on the concept of a world pervaded by good and evil spirits that inhabit forests, rivers and mountains.

Virgin comes of age
As Virgin Atlantic celebrates 18 years of flying from Hong Kong to London, 18 employees who have worked at the airline since 1994 came together to share memories. Charge it in Okinawa
In the past five years, the number of visitors to Okinawa has risen by 292 percent - many of whom are from Hong Kong. One added incentive to go there is that Visa, which has been running tourist promotion campaigns in the main cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, has recently added Okinawa.

Jetstar Japan takes off
Japan holidays don't have to cost a bomb as Jetstar Japan will take to the skies ahead of schedule on July 3. Using Narita Airport as its base, the low-cost airline will initially fly to five leading cities - Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka and Okinawa.

Spirits are high in Britain, thanks to the Olympics and the Queen's diamond jubilee celebrations. "There is no doubt that the UK will be buzzing during 2012," said Kevin McQuillan, British Airways regional general manager for East Asia.

Jumbo farewell
The last of Singapore Airlines' Boeing 747 fleet will be retired after almost 40 years of service. To mark this, the airline will have special flights, with a one-hour extended flying time, between Singapore and Hong Kong on April 6.

We arrived in Soelden after heavy snows had fallen but the sky was as blue and clear as an Alpine lake. ("We" being a family of three: husband, wife and a toddler named Ryan.)
