State of the arts

Luxury in Dalian
Hilton Hotels & Resorts has opened Hilton Dalian, its third property in China's northeastern region. The 370-room hotel is 13 kilometers from Dalian International Airport and adjacent to the new 210-room Conrad Dalian, which also opened at the same time.

Expat travel store
Leisure travel specialist Flight Centre opened it first local retail shop early this month. Located at 49 Caine Road in Central, it is the first Flight Centre-branded shop outside Singapore.

More rooms at Sands
Sands Cotai Central is taking bookings ahead of its opening in April. Sands China's latest offering will feature 600 rooms from Conrad and over 1,200 rooms from Holiday Inn. When fully completed next year it will also have an additional 4,000 rooms from Sheraton.

Virgin comes of age
As Virgin Atlantic celebrates 18 years of flying from Hong Kong to London, 18 employees who have worked at the airline since 1994 came together to share memories. Sharlynn Chan, cabin crew service supervisor, said: "There's never a dull moment and every flight is a surprise waiting to spring on you."

The Kawa Karpo Kora
Straddling the border between Yunnan and Tibet sits one of the Buddhist world's most holy mountains - Kawa Karpo, or "white pillar" in Tibetan. It's never been climbed (being worshipped as a deity) and remains a remnant and icon of the ancient bon religion; an animistic tradition based on the concept of a world pervaded by good and evil spirits that inhabit forests, rivers and mountains.
