New air gauge in main cities
China has ordered new air-quality standards to measure the most dangerous form of particulate matter, following an outcry over worsening air pollution.



Condoms call in HIV battle
China hopes to cap the number of people with HIV/AIDS at 1.2 million by 2015, up from about 780,000 at present, partly by promoting increased condom use, the government said yesterday. While praising achievements made over recent years, the State Council said China still faces a difficult task to prevent the spread of the disease.
