Chamber points to road ahead
With the new administration coming into office on July 1, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce welcomes the new administration and the economic targets set by Chief Executive-elect Leung Chun-ying.

Intrigued by integrity
I've read JS Lam's Policing the Times article on the establishment of the ICAC. It said the ICAC was also staffed by transferees from the police and that those officers may have been involved in corrupt practices being investigated by the ICAC.

Filial piety the correct term
I am writing in response to Gloria Yu's article "Time to picture the art of giving,"(The Standard, May 31). Gloria stated that there is no English counterpart to the term hao shun. Unfortunately, this is not correct.

Dangers of driver fatigue
The death of a woman at a Tuen Mun bus stop - killed after a double-decker plowed into the queue - left me wondering whether driver fatigue played a part. was no accident reported.

ICAC amnesty sought
The recent article by JS Lam on the police raid of ICAC headquarters at Hutchison House brought back a lot of memories, not least because I was the officer who confronted the raiders at the outset on that day in October 1977.

Investors also at fault
There is no question that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Securities and Futures Commission and the banks should be condemned for allowing the sale of Lehman minibonds to local investors who were mostly inexperienced.

Leung open call for talent carries whiff of PR stunt
The decision by Leung Chun-ying to call upon anyone keen to pursue a career in politics to apply for the posts of undersecretaries and political assistants is a move that echoes actions to openly recruit talents by several founding emperors throughout the history of China.

Why we should spread the load
"Seeking changes while preserving stability" is the principle underlying my policy implementation.

Noisy sign of times
I would really appreciate if all transport providers - trains, buses, trams, minibuses and ferries - could put up signs reminding passengers to use their earpieces when they listen to music, watch a movie or play a game on their iWhatever so as not to disturb other passengers.
