Savage blow as zealous US probe snares StanChart
For Standard Chartered - one of the banks least tarnished during the financial crisis thanks to its focus on Asia and other emerging markets and a conservative approach - it is a savage blow.



Teachers will get it right
There have been numerous disputes over the implementation of national education. Some protested to fight for the abolition of the subject, which is said to be "brainwashing" education for the young generation.

Can't be fooled
I have begun to notice that the words "Made in China" are no longer shown on products because sellers know that we would rather not buy anything made there. Instead, "Imported by XYZ Co" is now being used. I find that a tad deceitful.

On shaky grounds
In comments about a survey showing that Hongkongers prefer to marry foreign partners over locals ("Still in love with expats," The Standard, July 10), CUHK professor Wong Chak is quoted as saying: "This is not an act of admiring the West. Hongkongers do not admire South America, Africa or Eastern Europe. We only admire the richer Western countries."
